While I was in Spain

Hello my Darling Em,

I really missed you while I was in Spain for a month. 
Just before I left we watched you swimming at your swimming gala. 
You did so well and you were a star and looked great in your two piece costume!




While I was away you earned your 15 m swimming badge - clever girl!! 
You are like a little fish in the water - just like your daddy!


 While I was away I tripped and fell and broke my left arm!  I was very brave while they were taking the x-rays and putting the cast on in the hospital because I kept thinking of you and your Dad and how brave you have been.  This is a photograph of me and my cousin Marlene who came to Spain to walk a part of the Camino with us.


You had some nice outings to the Aquarium.  Here you are in front of a giant brindle bass.

You celebrated Father's day with your Mom and Dad

 Hello my darling! The months are flying by too quickly.  In a few weeks we'll be moving to our new cottage and you'll be flying to your new country! Mark had a farewell function with his team in La Lucia.   Apil/May has a full calendar of birthdays and anniversaries in our families.   29 April - Sharon's birthday and Greg and Sharon's wedding anniversary on 2 May.  (And on the same day Ruby got her Visa to go with you to America!)  15 May - Mark's birthday   26 May Gregs birthday  30 May Mark and Tammy's wedding anniversary.   On 10 June Jeff and Gail had a farewell party for you at Simbithi.   Only the ladies were allowed to say a few words this time. There were too many emotional men talking at Gumpie's 80th birthday and Gail and Tammy decided the ladies could do a better job! JUNE 2008 - getting ready

Dear Grandchild,   A baby is such a precious thing. We humans must have a protective, nurturing gene that switches on when we know that a new baby is going to come into our lives. We are wired in such a way that even the thought of a baby switches on an emotional response. I've never really thought about having grandchildren. There didn't seem to be any prospect of having a grandchild in the near future and I didn't even think I wanted one. But, now that we know that you are on the way, I find myself thinking of your arrival as a momentous event! A brand new, never seen before, absolutely unique human being is going to come into this world in a few months time - and it will carry the genes of two parents, two sets of grandparents, great-grandparents, etc etc....... Its awesome!! Scary!! Exciting!! For the first few months of a baby's life it is completely helpless, defenceless and dependent on others. MAY 24TH 2008 - First movement

Great news! Tammy felt you move today for the first time! What were you doing? Changing position? Stretching? Sneezing? It was Tammy's birthday today and Mark treated her to a day at a SPA. It was there, while she was relaxed and being pampered that she felt you kick. It will be a while yet before anyone else can feel those movements. I remember when I was pregnant and could feel Greg, or Mark, kicking, I would lay Finn's hand on my tummy and say, "There! Did you feel that?" I was always so frustrated when he said no. Babies move about quite a lot in the womb and it always surprised me that Mark didn't sustain any fractures whilst he was curled up in that awkward position. Many babies with brittle bones fracture in uetro, some have dozens of fractures during delivery. Mark's was an easy birth with no fractures. He was a calm, happy baby and hardly ever cried.
