 Hi sweet girl, 

Thank you for the early morning calls (early for me but late at night at night for you!)  I love chatting to you and seeing you on a video call.  

We were so pleased for Tammy that she got the job she applied for, and she passed her driver’s license.  At the end of the month your Dad also passed his. 

On 1 November you visited Disney World for a day as your birthday treat.  It looked like a beautiful day.


In November we went to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve while you guys were getting ready for Thanks Giving in the US.  You'll recognize the One Stop and the Mugg and Bean where we always stopped for breakfast on our way to the reserve.  You\ll also recognize the entrance to the park and the cottages.



We saw on CNN that a police officer was wounded in a shooting at your local store, the one you walk to regularly.  Gees, keep safe my precious girl.

10 November

18 November You went to the Champs by bus and came 4th in 6A in Southern California

Really, really missed you at Christmas this year.  You got a record player with the latest Taylor Swift Album.   Its amazing that they are making a comeback.  In my youth that was all we had to play music on.  The earliest record player I remember was the one in Wylie House.  It was in a case and had a handle you had to turn make the record spin.  When it started to wind down the music got slower and slower and the voices sounded like whale calls!  If you wound it up too far, the voices sounded like Chipmunks!   The most popular and famous were 'His Master's Voice' players with a photo of a small dog





 




Alex’s loved the train set you all sent him for his birthday! 

Do you recognize the rainbow cake he had for his birthday?  Just like you had for yours last year!  We bought him a Checkers delivery bike 






Greg, Sharon and Alex came to a pub night at Doone - they enjoyed the pool




We had a quiet Christmas at Greg & Sharon's.  You guys were there, in the baubles on the Christmas tree.  But it isn’t the same without you.

 Hello my darling! The months are flying by too quickly.  In a few weeks we'll be moving to our new cottage and you'll be flying to your new country! Mark had a farewell function with his team in La Lucia.   Apil/May has a full calendar of birthdays and anniversaries in our families.   29 April - Sharon's birthday and Greg and Sharon's wedding anniversary on 2 May.  (And on the same day Ruby got her Visa to go with you to America!)  15 May - Mark's birthday   26 May Gregs birthday  30 May Mark and Tammy's wedding anniversary.   On 10 June Jeff and Gail had a farewell party for you at Simbithi.   Only the ladies were allowed to say a few words this time. JUNE 2008 - getting ready

Dear Grandchild,   A baby is such a precious thing. We humans must have a protective, nurturing gene that switches on when we know that a new baby is going to come into our lives. We are wired in such a way that even the thought of a baby switches on an emotional response. I've never really thought about having grandchildren. There didn't seem to be any prospect of having a grandchild in the near future and I didn't even think I wanted one. But, now that we know that you are on the way, I find myself thinking of your arrival as a momentous event! A brand new, never seen before, absolutely unique human being is going to come into this world in a few months time - and it will carry the genes of two parents, two sets of grandparents, great-grandparents, etc etc....... Its awesome!! Scary!! Exciting!! For the first few months of a baby's life it is completely helpless, defenceless and dependent on others. MAY 24TH 2008 - First movement

Great news! Tammy felt you move today for the first time! What were you doing? Changing position? Stretching? Sneezing? It was Tammy's birthday today and Mark treated her to a day at a SPA. It was there, while she was relaxed and being pampered that she felt you kick. It will be a while yet before anyone else can feel those movements. I remember when I was pregnant and could feel Greg, or Mark, kicking, I would lay Finn's hand on my tummy and say, "There! Did you feel that?" I was always so frustrated when he said no. Babies move about quite a lot in the womb and it always surprised me that Mark didn't sustain any fractures whilst he was curled up in that awkward position. Many babies with brittle bones fracture in uetro, some have dozens of fractures during delivery. Mark's was an easy birth with no fractures. He was a calm, happy baby and hardly ever cried.
