FEBRUARY 2020 - Dear Emily

 Hello my precious girl,

You had visitors on the 1 February.  Brian arrived with a few of his cousins,
Jacqui's boyfriend's daughters and a friend.

Your Dad started sending us updates on the Corona Virus and on 4 February there had been 427 deaths.

We still thought of it as something far away - 11 000 km from Durban - and nothing for us to worry about.  We were more interested in the news that the landlord had accepted an offer on the house you were living in on Golf Course 1 and that you were going to have to move by June.  This was a bit of a surprise because we were planning to go to France and Spain in May so that you and I could walk parts of the Camino.

You moved to Ryder Avenue in February 2018 so you've been there two years and your folks have done a lot to improve the garden, and painted rooms on the inside.  It is a lovely house but Gumpie and I always felt that it was too dark and too damp because of all the trees around it hanging over the house.  The brick paving goes green with moss very quickly and you have had many colds since you've been there. Now the landlord wants to sell it and we thing a move will turn out to be a good thing.

Your Mom started looking at houses on the estate, and on other estates, and eventually found a beautiful 3 bed house with a small pool in Palm Springs Village, opposite the driving range in Cornubia Drive.  How wonderful for your family!

On 17 February you had your first treatment of the year.
You are always very brave, even when Dr Roos puts the stent into your hand.

It is a tradition for you to come to our house afterward for a tea party!

Whenever you visit us at Sandown we take a walk to the ponds and look for birds on their nests, a heron looking for frogs or or fish, or baby goslings, Busy Lizzie flowers with popping seeds and the Sensitive plant that curls up when you touch it.

You did 30 laps of the 25m pool in the annual Swimathon on 27th February
so we all sponsored you R250.

Your folks will be signing the lease for the new house next week and if the landlord at Ryder allows them to leave before the current lease time is up, you might move to the new house on 1 April!  Gumpie says he's looking forward to the first braai there!

Holding thumbs that everything goes well for the move!

Love and hugs darling Em. ♥
