FEBRUARY 2021 (2) DEAR EMILY

Hello my darling Em,

Our lives have changed so much that I'm sure it's hard for you to imagine a life when you went to school every day, dance classes and drama after school, shopping at supermarkets or clothing stores in crowded shopping malls like Gateway, La Lucia or the Pav; having visitors, play dates and sleep overs, going to parties, restaurants like Circus Circus, Mugg and Bean or Wimpy or going to theatre shows and movies.

Although pandemics have occurred throughout human history, the Covid Pandemic has been a unique experience because it has affected every continent in the world (excepting perhaps for the Arctic!). Modern travel is the reason why it spread so quickly.

One day - when we have settled into a new normal way of life - you might look back and realise that young people like you all over the world felt lonely, cut off from friends and activities, anxious about school and about their health, and the health of their parents.

You have been amazing through all of this Em.  In the beginning (before you fully understood the implications of lock-down) you resisted staying at home all of the time, of getting into a routine to do school work, respecting that your Dad was working from home and not on a holiday, that there would no longer be a helper in your home (besides the Xiaomi to vacuum the floors) and that the only visitors you might see are close family.  Its hard for all of us, but especially so for a young girl like you.

In the middle of this pandemic you had the sweet surprise of a little nephew!  Who would have thought it possible a year ago?

And he is fascinated by you!  He looks at you as if to say, "Who is this beautiful little blond person who wants to hold me and smile at me all the time?"

There are so many apps on your phone that you use to create special affects that you
sometimes look like an elf and other times like a fairy!

You don't need apps to look beautiful!  Just look at you (with a little bit of make-up) in this photo!

A gorgeous young lady ♥

 COVID UPDATE:

The first batch of AstraZeneca  vaccines arrived in South Africa on an Emirates flight on 2 February.  A week later the Government decided not start the vaccinations after a study revealed disappointing results with the vaccine and the new South African variant of the virus.  These vaccines will be sold to other African nations (who don't have the South African variant) and they will wait for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine early next month.
