MAY - JUNE 2023

 Hello my darling!

The months are flying by too quickly.  In a few weeks we'll be moving to our new cottage and you'll be flying to your new country!

Mark had a farewell function with his team in La Lucia.

Apil/May has a full calendar of birthdays and anniversaries in our families.

29 April - Sharon's birthday and Greg and Sharon's wedding anniversary on 2 May.  (And on the same day Ruby got her Visa to go with you to America!)

15 May - Mark's birthday

 26 May Gregs birthday

30 May Mark and Tammy's wedding anniversary.

On 10 June Jeff and Gail had a farewell party for you at Simbithi.

Only the ladies were allowed to say a few words this time. There were too many emotional men talking at Gumpie's 80th birthday and Gail and Tammy decided the ladies could do a better job!

On 15 June we moved to the cottage in Doone Village.  You all came to help us unpack boxes and on Saturday we had a braai on our unfinished patio.

A few days before you left, the stuff you were shipping to California went off in a crate.

On 26 June Ruby girl flew on Emirates to America

On 28th June we all went to the airport to say goodbye.

And then you were off.  I kept telling everyone that I felt as though I was waving you goodbye to you for your holiday.  I still haven't processed the fact that you will all be living in another country and will probably never come back to live here again.  It's too much for the mind.  So, for now, you are on holiday!

On the way to Heathrow your plane was truck by lightning!  Tammy wrote that there was a hug bang and a flash but you were assured that the plane was designed for that and that you were all safe!  You nearly missed your flight to Dallas and 3 of your bags were still in London but you were going to sort it out once you got to San Diego.   It was 46oC (115oF) there but less in San Diego.  Tammy sent a message: "We are completely shattered, em has just about fallen asleep standing up. She can not keep her eyes open. We are all booked in and tucked into bed now. Will send some adventure updates tomorrow."

One thing I must say I am pleased about Em, is that we lived long enough to experience modern technology.  We can speak to each other and video call each other from anywhere in the world so that we still feel connected.
We didn't even have TV in South Africa when I was your age - that only came in 1975 when Greg was born.

In 1961, when I was 14 years-old, there was no such technology.  Our telephones were chunky things with a dial and handset.  You can only find these in vintage shops today. The idea of ever having a telelphone in your pocket with a screen where you could see the person you were talking to was science fiction!

We have already started talking about visiting you next year so watch this space!
